The Somerset Jumpsuit - Let's hack a shortie romper!

The Somerset jumpsuit pattern is here!

This versatile one-piece features a relaxed fit tapered leg, button front placket, bias bound arm and neck openings and side pockets. It’s best sewn up in a mid-weight woven like our sandwashed cotton or linen. We love it as a stand-alone outfit, or layered with a basic tee!

While the main pattern instructions focus on a full length pant, you can easily transform them into shorts length.

Start by deciding how short you want them to be. As a starting point, take a look at a pair of one of your existing shorts and measure the inseam.

As a suggestion, why not start with an inseam of 4"?

Mark a cut line on the front of the jumpsuit pattern piece. Measure up from the hem. Mark the cut line that same distance on the back jumpsuit piece. Draw the cut lines perpendicular to the grainline.

Put some paper in behind your pattern pieces, and tape it to the pattern.

Next, we will add the hem allowance. Just as the long version of the Somerset jumpsuit, this hem will be 1.5".

Draw a line 1.5″ down from the bottom of the front jumpsuit pattern piece.

You can add some additional ease in the leg by altering the angle of the inseam as shown. Then, draw a slight angle outward to account for the hem. Repeat on the back pattern piece.

Cut out the pattern along your newly drawn shorts lines!

The rest of the construction steps are the same as the pant version - but you may want to change the position of your side pockets!

Now head over to Sustainable Cloth Co to grab the SCC Roland so you can twin with your tiny human!
